Quala Care Personal Policies
ADMISSION POLICY: Quala Care is a coeducational preschool that admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all of the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally made available to students at the school. The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, or national and ethnic origin in the administration of their educational policies or other school administered programs.
SCHOOL AGE ENTRANCE: A child entering Quala Care preschool must be 2 years of age and no older than 5. All students must be off the bottle. We do assist with the completion of potty training.
ENROLLMENT: Upon enrolling your child in the preschool, you will be asked to fill out an application, emergency medical form, field trip permission form, financial agreement form, photo/video permission form and a form stating that you have read the handbook.
IMMUNIZATIONS: A copy of your child's immunization certificate must be on file within (30) days of admission. Immunizations must be kept up-to-date and current immunization certificates kept on file at the preschool at all times. We cannot accept a "shot record". The director has the right to ask you to withdraw your child from the school if compliance is not made.
SCHOOL HOURS: School hours are from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
SIGNING IN AND OUT: A sign-in/out sheet is kept on the table in the foyer. Anyone dropping off or picking up a child must provide a signature next to that child's name and the time the child is being dropped off or picked up.
LATE FEE: A $15.00 late fee will be charged to anyone picking up his/her child past 6:00 p.m. Please pay this directly to the employee who stayed late with your child. Checks need to be made out to the individual, not to the school.
SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN: Quala Care does not offer before and after school care to school age children.
AUTHORIZED ESCORTS: The application has a place for you to list all authorized escorts for your child. If your child is to go home in a way that is different than usual, please let us know in advance. This is for your child's safety. If an escort comes in that is not recognizable to one of the staff members, that individual will be asked for verification by showing his/her driver's license. If you send someone to pick up your child and do not let us know in advance and that individual is not listed on the application as an authorized escort, your child will not be allowed to leave with that person.
ATTENDANCE: Regular school attendance is important, yet we understand your need to spend as much time with your child as possible. If at all possible, please have your child at school by 8:30 a.m. for Bible class. If your child is going to be late, please give us a call and let us know so that we know how to plan our day.
EARLY DISMISSAL: If your child needs to be picked up early, please let us know in advance, so that we may have him/her ready.
VACATION TIME: Vacation time is made up of days that a child is not in attendance and tuition for that time is not charged. Vacation time must be requested in advance in order to be used. Vacation time runs from the first day of school to the first day of school. Children attending school year-round will receive 2 weeks of vacation time. Children attending only during the school year will receive 1 week of vacation time. If a child is enrolled after January 1, he/she will receive 1 week of vacation time. Vacation time may not be carried over into the following year. One week of vacation time will equal the number of days your child is enrolled each week.
WITHDRAWAL: A 2-week notice (including payment) is required by anyone withdrawing their child from the school. Please notify us as soon as possible if this decision is made.
TEMPORARY WITHDRAWAL: It is no longer financially feasible for the school to hold a spot for a child, even over the summer break. If you choose to withdraw your child temporarily, we will have to go ahead and fill the spot immediately and your child's name will be put back in the waiting pool.
HOLIDAYS: Quala Care Preschool will be closed on the following holidays: Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve Day, New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (January 15, 2006), Memorial Day, and Fourth of July. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, we will be closed on Monday. If the holiday falls on Saturday, we will be closed on Friday. Thanksgiving is the only exception to the rule. We are closed on Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Tuition is due for all holiday time.
SNOW DAYS: Even when Jefferson County Schools and AIE (K-12) are closed for snow, we will remain open, whenever possible. Our staff will arrive as soon as they can safely do so. In most instances, this is in a very timely fashion. Our parking lot is cleared as soon as possible for your safety and convenience. If you are unsure if the weather has hindered the preschool staff from arriving by the time you need to be at school, please call before leaving home. If you are unable to reach anyone, please feel free to call the Savage home at 267-4874. In order to arrange for staffing for the day, please let us know if your child will not be in attendance or if you will be coming in late and your time of arrival.
CHANGE OF INFORMATION: When there is a change of information, such as address, telephone numbers, authorized escorts or emergency information, please notify us immediately. This is for the safety of your child.
PAYMENTS: Quala Care requires prompt payment so that we may provide the quality preschool program that your child deserves. Payment is due each week of service. If payments are 2 weeks behind, we reserve the right to ask you to withdraw your child from the preschool. Payment is expected each week, unless you are using vacation time.
SUPPLY FEE: There will be a $45.00 supply fee due the first day of each school year. This will help to cover the cost of supplies through the year. For those students enrolling after the first week, the supply fee should accompany the first week's tuition by separate check.
SUMMER FEE: There will be a $55.00 summer fee due the first day of the summer session. This will help to cover the cost of supplies, activities and field trips throughout the summer.
FIELD TRIPS: Upon admission, you will be asked to complete a field trip permission form. Field trips will be taken occasionally. You will always be notified in advance of any activity away from the school. The children are transported on a school bus. The Fisher Bus Company currently provides our transportation. Children must be seated at all times when the bus is moving. The child-staff ratio will be maintained on all field trips. A copy of the bus inspection for safety will be kept on file at the school. Additional fees may be requested by the school to cover the cost of the field trip and the bus. A permission slip will be sent home one week in advance of each field trip and must be turned back in prior to the field trip in order for that child to go on the trip.
BREAKFAST: A breakfast time will be provided each morning from 7:30 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. Please do not bring breakfast in after 7:50 a.m., unless you will be available to sit with your child. At that time of the morning, all of the staff is needed to care for the children. We will provide the milk and juice if you would like for your child to eat his breakfast at the school. If you wish to leave a box of cereal, poptarts, etc. at the school, it must be left in an airtight container with your child's name on it.
LUNCH AND SNACK: A morning and afternoon snack will be provided daily. Juice will be given with the morning and afternoon snacks. A nutritious well-balanced lunch, including milk, will be provided daily. For your convenience, the monthly menu will remain posted in the foyer. The students may bring in special snacks, but state regulations prohibit them from being homemade. Any food coming in from outside the preschool must come from an approved kitchen. (Ex.: Grocery store, deli, bakery, etc.)
We enjoy celebrating special days. Feel free to send in a special snack at any time. Your child's teacher will let you know how many children are in that class.
ITEMS FROM HOME: Toys from home are not allowed, except on Show and Tell Day. Toy weapons are not permitted at the school. Please label all items from home. (Ex: Coats, clothing, car seats, blankets, stuffed animals, etc.)
NAPTIME: Naptime is from 12:30 - 2:30 each day. We provide a cot for each child with his/her name on it. We also provide a sheet and blanket for each child. Cots are labeled and children do not lie on another child's cot. Sheets and blankets are washed and sanitized every weekend. If your child would like to bring in his/her own blanket or stuffed animal or doll to sleep with, that is fine. Due to space, blankets need to be small. (No quilts, comforters, or large blankets, please.) Blankets need to be taken home each weekend and washed. Pillows are not allowed.
BIRTHDAY INVITATIONS: In order to protect the feelings of those who may not be invited and in accordance with confidentiality regulations, we will assist with the distribution of birthday invitations in the following way: invitations should be given privately to one of the teachers; each invitation must be stamped; invitations will be addressed at naptime and dropped in the mailbox.
DRESS CODE: It is suggested that you dress your child comfortably and in good taste as the season dictates. For your child's safety, we ask that your child wear tennis shoes to preschool. We have found that sandals, flip-flops and other open-toed shoes can put your child at risk on the playground. Please remember that your child will be playing outside and will be involved in activities such as painting and playing with model magic and shaving cream. Please send in a complete change of clothes with your child's name on it in case of an accident or a spill.
MEDICATION: Individual medication forms are provided at the preschool in case your child should require medication during the day. Please fill in the required information on the form when you bring your child to school and give it to one of the staff members. The teacher will fill in the date, time given, dosage, and name of medication and will sign it. Medication must be sent in its original container with specific instructions given. We are only allowed to give the recommended dosage on the bottle, unless written instructions from a Doctor advise us otherwise.
ILLNESS: The staff at Quala Care works very hard to keep the spread of germs to a minimum. Good hand-washing habits are expected of all staff members and are taught to the students. When your child is ill, please keep him/her home -- it is much safer for your child and the other children, as well. The Department of Human Resources, which regulates the school, requires that a child may not return to school and must be symptom-free for 24 hours after fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. If your child is sent home due to one of these symptoms, they will not be accepted back at the school the next day, unless accompanied by a Doctor's statement saying that the illness will not affect the other children. All symptoms must also be gone. If your child develops one of these symptoms in the night, please do not send them to school. Not only are we trying to protect the other children at school, but also we are protecting the teachers. We encourage you to make alternate arrangements in advance, in the event that your child becomes ill and needs to go home. Please notify us immediately if your child has a communicable disease (Ex. chicken pox). If your child will not be at school because of illness, please let us know first thing in the morning. Tuition is expected, even when a child is sick, except for vacation days.
